/ˈTHANGKFƏL/ 2015

This post is a month late but better late than never, right? Stole this idea from my sister (what’s new), so here’s a list of the moments in 2015 that I am extremely grateful for. As my sister said, “these are the ones that made me feel alive this year.”

1. Holidays in the Philippines

This was the first time in 7 years that I spent the holidays in the Philippines, so it’s been a long time since I’ve heard fireworks at midnight and loud loud partying in anticipation of the new year. I’ve definitely missed it.

High: Fireworks, family, and Filipino food. Plus the glorious island of Boracay, I’d like to think of it as the island I grew up in.

Low: Due to last minute complications, Patch wasn’t able to join us of Christmas and NYE which sucked for everyone

2. Watching and meeting Hozier!

After listening to his album on repeat for over 5 months, I was finally able to witness his man bun and amazing voice in concert.

image

High: hearing like real people do and work song live, hugging him (he smelled good) and telling him how awesome his lyrics and music was.

Low: realizing that we got scammed, so we had to pay for new (and expensive) tickets at the door…

3. A dream family vacation to El Nido, Palawan.

High: EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS TRIP. I can’t even express how perfect this trip was. From our private dinner, to swimming with turtles, to the perfect hot sunny weather, to having our own bangka, to snorkeling/paddle boarding/kayaking all day, this was more than I could have ever asked for. Felt very blessed to be able to see places like this with my family.

Low: Absolutely nothing.

3. Coron, Palawan with Pia and Isa.

High: Bonding with our local tour guides and feeling more connected to my filipino roots, drinking on the roof of a bangka, rap parties in our hotel room, eating mangoes and fish everyday, having the biggest laughs with these girls, and discovering the beauty of coron. also, touching a puffer fish, learning how to free dive, and cliff jumping!

Low: we had a creepy tour guide on one day who threw an empty bottle into the ocean. that made me mad.

4. TonLes Wedding!

image
image

High: a day full of love, getting dolled up, and drinking till 4am.

Low: Patch wasn’t here for it 😦

5. Balicasag Island

image

High: dolphin watching at 6am, swimming alongside 20 turtles during our dive and more while snorkeling by our resort, spotting moorish idol (gill from nemo), walking along a sandbar, swimming by the drop off, bonding with mom and isa.

Low: scuba diving along a wall was a bit terrifying just cause you couldn’t see past a certain point.

6. Hiking Pico de Loro Monolith

High: getting some exercise in, finally. conquering this 3 hour hike and getting rewarded with a great view. ++ the company was great as well

Low: i’m not particularly afraid of heights, but when you’re climbing a mountain without safety gear, it’s pretty terrifying. literally one wrong step/slip and you could roll across the edge and fall to your death. IT WAS SCARY BUT I GOT THROUGH IT.

7. 20th birthday celebrations

image

High: getting drunk and dancing in the rain.

Low: getting too drunk and forgetting that I danced in the rain. puking my way home. (basically blacking out) thanks pia/isa/wissa for taking care of me lol

8. Bangkok Adventures

image

image

High: navigating Bangkok with Isa, bonding with my aunt and uncle that I haven’t seen in a while, having the best of the best Thai food, walking through beautiful temples everyday, air conditioned train rides, but most of all, buying mango sticky rice and pad thai on the street.

Low: the heat was so bad during the summer. we were dripping sweat everywhere we went.

9. Bali Adventures

High: spending a few days alone and enjoying the serene lifestyle of Ubud, then having the biggest laughs with isa and pia while biking through the rice fields, visiting temples, trying kopi luwak (cat poop) coffee, attempting to cook balinese food, and hard core bargaining in the market.

Low: the food wasn’t so great but that might be because we were on a tight budget. as much as i enjoyed biking through the rice fields in the end, it was a terrifying activity to do – we were on bikes that felt like they were on the verge of breaking and going on unpaved roads. some of the people we were with even fell down and hurt themselves.

10. Market days with the family

This may not be a huge deal for many people, but family days are some of my favourite since I’m barely ever with them :(( also, how cool are my parents?!

High: mom and dad buying us whatever we want during the sunday market aka churros, fresh fruit popsicles, and fresh ginger juice. ty parents!!!

Low: patch wasn’t hereeeee

11. Subic sleepover with my best franssss

High: wine and cheese dinners, getting drunk on wine and dancing to the most ratchet playlist, singing i gotta feeling in a circle, dancing around the kitchen table to hilary duff, honest 4am conversations on the kitchen floor, holding each others hairs back while puking…yes, that is a high. going on a boat was amazing too.

Low: le hangover

12. Singapore Adventure

High: roller coasters, gardens by the bay light show, good street food, dancing in public with wissa, holding hands and being cheesy all over the place with laurence (hehe)

Low: we weren’t able to go on top of the marina bay sands. to this day i regret not ordering the eggs benedict at stranger’s reunion.

13. Complete!!!

image
image

High: (yes this was a big deal) we were a complete 10 after so long. very grateful to have the same set of friends from grade school to this day, despite the distance.

Low: not enough alcohol was consumed that night

14. Pretty Vancouver dates

image
image

High: always a good time with my trishybabes ❤ the one person that I can talk to about the alabang/vancouver life. vancity is a prettycity. kits beach – my favorite spot 6 years and counting.

15. FaceTime dates

image
image

High: talking to the baaaeeeee

Low: it isn’t face to face 😦

16. Fall 2015 – passed!

image
image

High: took my favourite class to date: perspectives on environmental health. a lot of hard work went into last semester so i was ecstatic to find out i passed all my classes (thank goodness) and even got an A in one of them. celebrated the end of the semester with frieeeends

Low: organic chemistry and english writing sucked

17. New Zealand solo trip

image
image

High: AUCKLAND, NZ whuuut?!? never thought i would have the chance to go here, but luckily i was able to sneak this trip in. i had fun getting lost around the city, having lunch at the top of one of the volcanoes (Mt. Eden), and meeting cool people at the hostel

Low: i dun like traveling alone! also, didn’t eat a lot of food cause i wasn’t prepared with my $$ oops

18. Ending the year in Australia!

image
image
image
image

High: doing the Great Ocean Road, watching little penguins climb out of the water onto shore, going on the craziest car ride on a mountain, seeing the ISS roam around the night sky, dancing the night away on a boat in sydney harbour and having front row seats to the nye 2016 fireworks, endless laughs and game nights with wine and cheese (and beer), having the best date in sydney. also, i finally went bungee jumping!

Low: getting so sick i had to go to the ER and was bed ridden on our first day in sydney. couldn’t drink a lot on nye lol i was looking forward to that, rainy days in gold coast when we were expecting sunny days.

2015 had its fair share of ups and downs, but looking back at all these makes me feel so grateful to be able to travel the world and have two places to call home. Here’s to hoping 2016 brings me more clarity and adventures.

(lots of love) ♡ Pam
